Hey guys, so last week i attended my first meeting for the Presidential Leadership Academy here at Penn State. I’m still not at that familiar with it but basically it is a program for students to develop leadership fundamentals and critical thinking abilities. There is a required GPA to get in along with a few other minor requirements so my plan is to apply next month and see what happens!
This program opened my eyes to all the great resources Penn State has to offer. At first i didn’t really know if i wanted to apply but told myself that i should be taking advantage of what’s out there while i can. I quickly learned that the PLA is an especially closely linked community and it’s not like most programs. The students take a required 3 credit course together each semester focusing on the goals of the program and at one point they take a class with President Barron. We are required to blog weekly about our experiences which i thought was pretty cool and every semester we take trips to different places around the world. This spring they are traveling to Costa Rica!!
I know i may not get in since the application process is very competitive but i would be lucky if i did because this program has so many amazing things to offer and i really think that i could learn a lot and get a lot out of it. I took part in the People to People program as a junior leader a few years ago and have always wanted to improve my leadership skills inside and outside the classroom and i find this program to be the perfect opportunity. I’ll let you guys know what happens!
